⚾️: Raleigh, Parrish Lead All-America Honors

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Junior catcher Cal Raleigh earned five postseason All-America or All-Region honors, one of five Seminoles to be recognized for their on-field accomplishments in 2018. Starting pitcher Drew Parrish, relievers C.J. Van Eyk and Jonah Scolaro and third baseman Drew Mendoza also earned accolades.

Raleigh, a third-round draft pick of the Seattle Mariners in last week’s MLB Draft, led Florida State with a .326 average and 54 runs batted in. Raleigh also ranked top three on the team in runs (44), hits (75), doubles (18), home runs (13) and walks (51). Each of those numbers, as well as his two stolen bases, were career highs.

Raleigh was a second-team catcher from Collegiate Baseball and a third-team catcher from Baseball America, D1Baseball.com and Perfect Game. Raleigh was the first-team ABCA/Rawlings Atlantic Region catcher.

Parrish finished his sophomore season 5-1 with a 2.52 earned run average. Parrish was FSU’s lone starter to make an appearance in each weekend series, finishing with 128 strikeouts in 107.0 innings pitched. Opponents hit just .186 against the left-hander from Rockledge, Fla. Parrish struck out a career-high 14 batters against No. 9 NC State in the ACC Tournament, leading FSU to a 5-2 victory on the way to a second-consecutive ACC Championship.

Parrish was a second-team pitcher from Collegiate Baseball and a third-team pitcher by D1Baseball.com. He was an honorable mention All-American from Perfect Game and the first-team starting pitcher by the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region team.

Freshmen pitchers Scolaro (Collegiate Baseball) and Van Eyk (NCBWA Second Team) each earned All-Freshman All-America honors. Scolaro finished his first season at Florida State with a 3.43 earned run average and 2-1 record. The left-hander struck out 60 batters over 44.2 innings and tallied a team-high six saves.

Van Eyk finished 7-0 with a 2.86 ERA over 19 appearances, including five starts. Van Eyk’s seven wins without a loss are the most for an FSU pitcher since Kevin Lynch went 12-0 in 2005.

Van Eyk and Parrish were both named to the Team USA Collegiate National Team that will play over the summer.

Mendoza was named the second-team third baseman for the ABCA/Rawlings All-Atlantic Region team. Mendoza hit .313 with 17 doubles, seven home runs and 44 runs batted in during his sophomore season. His .440 on-base percentage was third on the team.

For the second straight season, Mendoza had the game-winning hit in the ACC Championship Game. His two-run double in the top of the 10th inning against Louisville gave FSU a 10-8 lead en route to an 11-8 victory, closed out by Scolaro.
