Raleigh Selected NCBWA First Team Freshman All-American

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Florida State catcher Cal Raleigh received his third postseason honor of the 2016 campaign when he was named as a Freshman First Team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association on Monday.

Raleigh has also been recognized as a Freshman All-American by Louisville Slugger and as member of the Atlantic Coast Conference’s All-Freshman team. The switch-hitting backstop was named as a preseason candidate for the Johnny Bench Award, presented annual to the nation’s best catcher.

Raleigh’s offensive impact on the Seminoles’ lineup this season has ranked him among the top five in six major categories including home runs (10-2nd), slugging percentage doubles (16-3rd), RBI (50-3rd), runs (45-4th), hits (68-4th) and (.513-5th).

The Cullowhee, NC, native is one of four Florida State hitters with at least 20 multi-hit games, along with John Sansone (31), Taylor Walls (25) and Dylan Busby. Two of those came last weekend in the Tallahassee Regional when he finished 2-for-4 against both Alabama State (June 3) and South Alabama (June 5).
