TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After an eight match opening home stand, The No. 22 Florida State women’s tennis team will hit the road for the first time this season on Wednesday to face No.2 Florida at the Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex at 4 p.m.
The Seminoles have a quick turnaround between matches as they are coming off of two losses this past weekend, falling to No.39 South Florida 4-3 on Friday and dropping their match against No. 14 Miami 5-2 on Sunday. FSU is 5-3 on the season.
As last year’s defending National Champions, Florida has four ranked players in No.1 Allie Will, No. 13 Joanna Mather, No. 30 Sofie Oyen, No. 33 Lauren Embree and No. 62 Alex Cercone. They also have the No. 7 doubles team in Oyen and Will and as well as the No. 29 pair of Embree and Mather.
The Gators were scheduled to play No. 13 North Carolina this weekend, but the match was postponed due to rain. Florida is 5-1 with its only loss coming to then No. 2 Stanford.
The only Florida State win against Florida came under Coach Hyde during the 2009 regular season, when the Seminoles took the Gators 5-2. The two teams did meet at the NCAA Championships that year, with Florida taking the victory, 4-2.
