Almost another week of fall practice has gone by and oh has it been a good one. It was a week full of "Challenges," dressing up for Halloween, and recording another win against Wallace Junior College. It is never a dull moment with our team!
As we are approaching the end of our fall season with a limited number of team practices left, we have started to challenge ourselves as a team to make it to Oklahoma City for the College World Series. With 15 practices left, we have taken on a "Challenge" each day simulating our road to OKC. We began with our ACC opponents in order of our 2010 schedule and are continuing to make it through the ACC tournament, NCAA Regionals, NCAA Super Regionals, and lastly the World Series. A "Challenge" can consist of any situation that Coach Alameda wants to throw at us, and as a team we must complete the challenge to get the win against our opponent that day.
We started off with North Carolina in a pretty sticky situation. It was the top of the seventh and we were down by one run. Our captain and center fielder, Carly Wynn, was out with a concussion after making an amazing catch into the fence and our pitcher Sarah Hamilton was out after rolling her ankle while celebrating Carly's ESPN Top 10 catch.
But that did not stop us!
After holding North Carolina, played by our coaches and managers, in the top of the seventh, me (K-Mac), Morgan Bullock and Tiffani Brown all reached base safely bringing up Shayla Jackson with no outs. With speed on the bases we scored two runs with Shayla's game-winning hit to right field. We completed our first challenge and are excited to keep on rolling down that road to OKC.
While we have been winning these challenges and getting better on the field, we also have been having some fun off the field. We had a deal with Coach Alameda if we all, as a team, dressed up in a costume for 6 a.m. workouts on Friday morning before Halloween, then we would get the weekend off! And if you know our team, there was no thinking twice about dressing up. We were all there Friday morning in our Halloween costumes. The freshmen and transfers also provided the team with some entertainment. They performed the "Planet Earth" theme song and had us cracking up, but they better stick to softball! Ha-ha.
Later that same Friday, we got back to business and recorded a win against Wallace Junior College. Our offense did very well producing 14 runs and everyone on the team was able to contribute to the win.
We continue our fall games this Saturday, Nov. 7 with another Garnet and Gold game and a game against Chipola Junior College. Hope to see you out there!
See you all next week!!
