Roneeka Hodges has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after guiding Florida State to two ACC wins, including a thrilling 95-91 overtime win over No. 15 Maryland Sunday. It is the second ACC Player of the Week honor for the senior from New Orleans, La. Hodges scored an FSU-record 39 points in the Maryland win and also had a team-high six rebounds. The previous FSU record for points in a single game was 38, held by both Latavia Coleman (1998) and Tia Paschal (1993).
In 40 minutes of play vs. Maryland, Hodges shot 58 percent from the field, a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range and 55 percent from the free throw line. She also added two steals and two assists. The game marked FSU’s first this season vs. a ranked opponent. Hodges also led FSU in both points (24) and rebounds (9) in the road win at Clemson. She shot 61 percent from the field in that game and 40 percent from three-point range.
For the week, Hodges averaged a remarkable 31.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and shot 59 percent from the field, 63 percent from three-point range and 46 percent from the line. In 37.0 minutes per game, she averaged just two turnovers.
On the season, Hodges now has six games of 20 or more points, including two games of 33 or more points. She has scored in double figures in 17 games, including 16 straight and has now led the team in scoring 12 times, including the last four contests.
With Hodges’ help, FSU has tied the program’s best ever start with a 16-2 record. The 1981-82 team also started 16-2 on the way to a 28-10 record. This year’s 12-0 start was the first time a Seminole team opened a season with 12 straight wins and also set an FSU record for consecutive victories.
