The honors continue to come in for Florida State senior Roneeka Hodges. On Monday, the New Orleans, La., native was named one of six members of the Kodak/WBCA Region II All-America Basketball Team released by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). All 48 players in the eight regions are finalists for the 12-member Kodak All-America team that will be released on April 2, 2005 at the Westin Hotel in Indianapolis, Ind.
Four fellow ACC players join Hodges on the Region II team in Monique Currie (Duke), Shay Doron (Maryland), Tamara James (Miami) and Ivory Latta (North Carolina) while Shareese Grant (Old Dominion) rounds out the group.
Hodges, who was recently selected to the all-star line-up for the 2005 WBCA All-Star Challenge on April 2 at the University of Indianapolis’ Nicoson Hall, also earned first team All-ACC honors. She is first on the team and second in the ACC in scoring at 19.0 points per game. A two-time ACC Player of the Week honoree, Hodges’ 569 points this season rank fourth on FSU’s single-season points list. She has scored in double figures a team-high 28 times and has had 12, 20+ points games this season including eight against ACC opponents. Hodges has led the team in scoring in 19 games and has averaged 23.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per game vs. ranked opponents. She set an FSU record with a career-high 39 points in the Maryland win.
With the honor, Hodges is just the third Seminole to be named a Kodak All-Region All American and the first since 1982 when Lisa Foglio and Sue Galkantas garnered the accolades.
Hodges and the Seminoles (23-7), who received a No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament, will face No. 11 seed Richmond (23-7) in first round action Sunday, March 20th at approximately 9:30 p.m. in Storrs, Conn. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
