GREENSBORO, N.C. – Florida State juniors Steve Roof (Canton, Ohio / Central Catholic) and Romy Altmann (Cape Town, South Africa / German International School) sweep the ACC Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week honors after their impressive performances at the ACC Quad Meet in College Park, Md. on October 21-22. This is the first time that both Roof and Altmann have received this award.
In the Seminoles’ 2005-06 season opener, Roof led the No.17 men’s team to three victories over Georgia Tech 227-121, Maryland 243-105 and Virginia Tech 229-119. The Canton Ohio native won the 1000yd free with a time of 9:21.01. Then he swam to a third place finish in the 400yd IM (4:04.27) and followed that up by helping the 400yd medley relay team to a third place finish (3:06.34). Roof took first place in the 500yd free with a time of 4:30.77, but swam the event as an exhibition.
Atlmann registered three first place finishes as she helped the No.21 women’s team to wins over Georgia Tech 251-100, Maryland 230-121 and Virginia Tech 200-151. The Cape Town, South Africa native recorded two NCAA B qualifying standard times. Her first one came in the 200yd back as she took first place with a time of 2:01.67 and then she followed that up by helping the 400yd medley relay team to a first place in a time of 3:44.76. Altmann also took first place in the 100yd back (56.62) and was apart of the second place 400yd free relay team (3:25.87).
The Seminoles will be back in action at home on Friday, October 28, 2005 as the men’s and women’s teams will face Louisiana State and the women will also compete against Florida International. The meet will be held at Bobby E. Leach Center Pool at 3:00 p.m.
