Tallahassee, Fla. – The Florida State women’s tennis team (8-5, 3-1 ACC) won its third consecutive match, beating No. 64 Virginia (4-7, 0-2 ACC) at home on Sunday, March 20, 2005 at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center by a score of 6-1. The Seminoles swept doubles for the third time in four conference matches and continued its record of 11-1 in doubles matches in the league.

In doubles, the number two and three position teams won 8-2 in less than an hour to secure the first point of the day. Sophomore Roxanne Clarke (Cape Town, South Africa/Clapham) and senior Amberly Tantee (Dana Point, Calif./Futures) were the first to finish, taking the last five games in the set to win. Junior Miranda Foley (Cambridge, England/Houston) and freshman Tapiwa Marobela (Garborone, Botswana/Clapham) clinched doubles, winning against Marta Bechliwanis and Caroline Hammond.

The 12th-ranked doubles pair comprise of senior Mihaela Moldovan (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) and junior Lindsay Deason (Ft. Myers, Fla./Boca Raton Prep) came back from being down 2-5 at number one position doubles, to win 8-6 over Lori Stern and Kristen James. The pair took five of the final six games to complete the doubles sweep.

The Seminoles added their second point of the day when Moldovan bested James in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2 at the number one position. Clarke added to the score when she won at the number two position over Stern, 6-2, 6-3.

Marobela clinched FSU’s third ACC victory, playing out of the number five position against Marta Bechliwanis. The rookie picked up a two-set win, 6-3, 6-4 for the fourth team point.

Foley and Tantee went to three sets with both coming out on top. Foley won 6-3, 0-6, 6-3 over Dora Bechliwanis while Tantee bettered Pereira, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.

The Seminoles return to action next weekend with home matches on Friday, March 25 (2:00 p.m.) and Sunday March 27, 2005 (12:00 p.m.).
