Round Two Of Lady Gamecock Women’s Golf Classic Cancelled; Seminoles In 7th Place

Round two of the Lady Gamecock Classic at the University Club was cancelled Saturday due to inclement weather. The tournament will be shortened to two rounds and 36 holes with the final round beginning at 9 a.m. Sunday with a shotgun start. Florida State, ranked 29th nationally in the most recent GolfWeek Magazine rankings, is tied for seventh in the team standings while senior All-America candidate Kristin Tamulis is in a tie for 4th place in the individual standings. The Seminoles are tied with Vanderbilt with scores of 310 and are only eight strokes out of the top five in the team standings.


Wake Forest leads the team standings with an eight over par score of 296. Leigh Ann Hardin of Duke, Alena Sharp of New Mexico State and Kacy Thompson of South Carolina are on top of the individual leader board with even par scores of 72.


Tamulis, who claimed her first career individual title at last week’s Lady Gator Invitational, shot a one-over par 73 and is only one stroke off the lead held by three different players. Tamulis is averaging 72.00 strokes in four rounds during the first two events of the spring season.


Tamulis (Naples, Fla.) played a relatively error-free 18 holes in round one. She played 15 of the 18 holes at par and recorded only two holes over par. She birdied the ninth hole on the front side to finish the first nine holes at even par. She finished the back nine with a one-over par score of 37.


Junior Katie Quinney (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) is in a tie for 30th place with a six-over par score of 78. She played the front nine in a two over par score of 38 and the back nine in a four-over par score of 40.


Freshman Caroline Larsson (Dendyard, Sweden) is tied for 37th after round one with a score of 79. She is coming off of a career-best tied for 14th finish at the Lady Gator Invitational. Juniors Alison Curdt (St. Louis, Mo.) and Carrie Sordel (Windermere, Fla.) are tied for 48th place with identical scores of 80.
