TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Ryan Lowery of Gastonia, N.C. has signed a
national letter of intent to play basketball at Florida State University.
A 6-2 point guard, Lowery averaged 11.2 points and 8.4 assists at
Fork Union Military Academy last season. He also hit 38 percent from
three-point range and 82 percent from the free throw line. Lowery is
widely regarded as one of the nation’s top 20 prep point guards. He is
also currently ranked No. 3 in his graduating class at Fork Union.
“We are very excited about Ryan,” said Seminole head coach Steve
Robinson. “He has the potential to be an outstanding lead guard. The
young man has great basketball savvy and is a gym rat who is self motivated
to succeed. He is an unselfish player and puts the team and winning first.
“His outstanding track record for success both on and off the court
makes him a valuable addition to our program. Ryan and his family will be
great representatives of Florida State University.”
Lowery was a 4.0 student at Ashbrook High School in Gastonia and
graduated from the school in 1999. He did not play his senior season there
due to a knee injury and decided to attend Fork Union, where he played with
three other Division I signees.
Lowery selected Florida State over Utah, Notre Dame, Rutgers,
Clemson and Virginia Tech.
