Tallahassee, Fla. – Ryan Strauss received his first career weekly honor from the league office as he was named ACC Pitcher of the Week. The senior right hander registered wins over 13th-ranked Florida and No. 14 Virginia in helping the Seminoles to a perfect 5-0 record this past week.
In his first career start against the Gators, Strauss pitched seven solid innings to remain undefeated on the year. The Tampa, Fla., native eclipsed the 100 pitch mark for the fourth time in six starts as he gave up just one run on four hits. He walked a season-low one batter while striking out four. It marked the second time in five starts this season that Strauss registered seven innings of work. Strauss faced no more than four batters in six of the seven innings that he worked and finished the game retiring the last seven Gator hitters that he faced.
On Sunday against Virginia in game one of a doubleheader, Strauss earned the win as the senior right hander made just his second relief appearance of the season. He fired three shutout innings without giving up a hit to close out the game. Strauss struck out six of the 10 batters that he faced to move his record to 4-0 on the year.
The conference honor is the sixth in seven weeks for a Seminole student-athlete as Dennis Guinn has been honored twice (March 4 & March 24) as well as one weekly honor for Buster Posey (March 31), Matt Fairel (March 17) and Mike McGee (February 25).
The Seminoles return to the diamond on Friday, April 11 as they travel to face Boston College for a three-game set. First pitch on Friday is set for 2:30 p.m.
