TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After a successful first day at the 2008 Riviera ITA Women’s All-American Championships, sophomore Katie Rybakova (Coral Springs, Fla.) was ready to hit the courts against ACC rival Georgia Tech’s Irina Falconi. In spite of having played the day before with patience and determination, the No. 1 seed Rybakova fell to Falconi 7-5, 6-1 to conclude her 2-0 run in the qualifying singles. Rybakova finished with an overall record of 2-1.
Later that day, Rybakova and junior Lauren Macfarlane (ranked at No. 40 in the doubles preseason polls) battled against Denver’s Julia Bauregger and Malbry Voelker but were defeated 8-3.
In her first day at Riviera, Rybakova defeated two ranked opponents-No. 56 Courtney Ulery of Vanderbilt, 6-1, 7-6 (3) and No. 62 Jennifer Lee Heisner of San Francisco, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Rybakova along with Macfarlane also competed in the doubles match of the championships, but lost to Texas’ Vanja Corvic and Marija Milic.
