Rybakova Falls In The First Round Of The National Indoor Championship

Nov. 6, 2008

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.At her first National Indoor Championship, sophomore Katie Rybakova fell in the first round earlier today. At 1:30 p.m. Rybakova (Coral Springs, Fla.) matched up against Sacramento State’s Katsiaryna Zheltova at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, home of the Cavaliers. In spite of having successful regional matches, Rybakova was unable to keep the momentum going as she was defeated by Zheltova, 6-2, 6-4.

“Katie had a bit of a tough day,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “I think she felt ready to go as the day progressed and the match neared. Her opponent made it very difficult for Katie to get a rhythm. At the same time, Katie gave away too many free points in her match. In these national events, you have to be able to make your opponent work.”

No. 24 Rybakova will now face No. 43 Kelcy Tefft of Notre Dame in tomorrow’s consolation draw.
