GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Tuesday, March 1st that Florida State’s Katie Rybakova has been named the ACC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the period of Feb. 21-Feb. 27 following Florida State’s 5-2 upset victory over No. 15 Georgia Tech. The honor is the first of her career for the senior Rybakova.
The 65th-ranked Coral Springs, Fla., native won every match in which she participated, including a 6-3, 7-5 win over the nation’s 105th-ranked opponent Viet Ha Ngo on court one. Rybakova also teamed up with sophomore Amy Sargeant, playing in her first tennis match of the 2010-11 season after recovering from injury, to defeat Georgia Tech’s tandem of Lynn Blau and Muriel Wacker by a score of 8-4.
Rybakova ranks among the top ten all-time singles and doubles winners in Florida State women’s tennis history.
The Seminoles will hit the courts this afternoon as they face No. 2 Florida Gators in a 4:00 p.m. home match at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
