March 27, 2006

AWENDAW, S.C. –
Florida State sophomore Tommy Rymer is in a tie for 27th place and the Seminole men’s golf team is in 12th place after two rounds of the Hootie at Bulls Bay Invitational at Bulls Bay Golf Course. Through the first two rounds of the event, the Seminoles have earned two scores of par or better, seven scores of 75 or better and two of the top six team scores (293) of the spring 2006 season. Junior Jonas Blixt carded a two-under par 69 in the first round of the tournament – a score which is tied for the fourth best single-round score of the spring season by a Seminole player.

Wake Forest, which is led by the current individual leader Webb Simpson, has completed the first 36 holes as the team leader. The Demon Deacons are 10 strokes ahead of second-place South Carolina as they attempt to lead the event wire to wire. Simpson has scored a nine-under par 133 total and leads Jamie Miller of Augusta State by one stroke.

Rymer (Hastings, Minn.) leads the Seminoles with a 145 total for the first 36 holes of the event. He is three strokes over par and only four strokes from moving into the top-10 of the individual standings. He shot an even-par 71 in the first round and came back in the second round with a three-over par 74. After playing the front nine at even par on Monday he made the turn and finished the back nine with a three-over par score.

Freshman Nicholas Smith (Ocala, Fla.) shot a one-over par 72 in the second round as he made the biggest improvement of the Seminoles’ five golfers. He improved by 11 strokes after carding an 83 in Sunday’s first round. Smith was tied with sophomore Song Jeon (Seoul, Korea) for the Seminoles’ best score during the round. Joen carded a 72 in the second round and has a 147 total for the first 36 holes. Joen and Seminole teammate Jonas Blixt (Hammaro, Sweden) are in a tie for 42nd place with identical two-round scores of 147.

Junior Torstein Nevestad (Oslo, Norway) also improved his score by three strokes as he shot a four-over par 75 in the second round. He has a 153 total for the first 36 holes of the event.

The second annual Hootie and Bulls Bay Invitational, which is sponsored by the musical group Hootie and the Blowfish, concludes Tuesday with a shotgun start beginning at 8 a.m.
