TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) –
Florida State senior Maria Salinas, who will lead the Seminoles into the NCAA Championships for the school record seventh consecutive season in 2012, was named to the All-ACC Women’s Golf Team for the second consecutive year as announced by the league office. Salinas is now one of only four players in school history to earn All-ACC honors multiple times during her career.

Salinas’ selection to the All-ACC team marked the school record 12th consecutive season at least one Seminole has been named to the All-ACC team.

Salinas (Lima, Peru) is enjoying the best season of her career as she is averaging a career-low 74.22 stroke average. She is the No. 5 ranked golfer in the ACC the GolfStat Cup rankings of the top individual players in college golf. Salinas tied the school record for best finish as the ACC Championship (tied for second) and won her first career individual championship at the Lady Gator Invitational in March.

“I’m happy to be named to the All-ACC team for the second consecutive season,” said Salinas. “It says to me that we have a strong team and are one of the top teams in the ACC. Each of my teammates has the ability to earn All-ACC honors and that’s good for us as a team as we head into regionals next week. This is a great time of the year for our team and we are all very excited to be able to continue playing together in the postseason.”

Salinas joins a select group of Seminoles – Karen Stupples, Kristin Tamulis and Caroline Westrup – who have earned All-ACC honors multiple times during their careers. Westrup earned the honor a school record four times while Tamulis was honored by the ACC three times during her career.

“I am very happy for Maria,” said head coach Amy Bond, who herself earned All-ACC honors in 1998. “She has really committed herself to improving her overall game and has been very disciplined in how she has prepared to play throughout the season. We look forward to her continuing her success in the NCAA’s for us beginning next week.”

The Seminoles, who finished in fourth place in the ACC Championship, will learn of their NCAA Regional Champions destination on Monday night when the NCAA Women’s Golf Championship field is announced on ncaasports.com.
