Sam Chang Reaches Semifinals In Consolation Draw At All-American Championships

Oct. 7, 2005

Sophomore slump?  Not for the Seminole’s Sam Chang.

The native of Young-Ming, Taiwan, stayed alive in the consolation main draw of the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center Friday afternoon, defeating Michigan’s Ryan Heller in three sets (6-0, 3-6, 6-1).  He will face Mark Berry of Penn State on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the semifinals.

Chang, who reached the main draw by winning three matches in the qualifying draw earlier in the week, is the lone Seminole left in the tournament.

The Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships offer the first national singles and doubles titles of the 2005-06 collegiate tennis season. They are followed by the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in Columbus, Ohio, in November and the third event is the season-ending NCAA Championships at Stanford in May.
