Samantha George Wins Heat at NCAA Outdoor Championships

BOISE, IDAHO — Florida State’s Samantha George has advanced to the finals of the women’s 400m race at the 1999 Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The finals will be run at around 6:50 pm Saturday, June 5th.

George won the first heat of the women’s 400m dash with a time of 53.48, which was the seventh fastest time in the preliminaries. Mikele Barber of South Carolina had the fastest time of the semifinals with a time of 51.89.

In the women’s 4x400m relay, Florida State finished seventh in heat one with a time of 3:39.04. Of the 15 teams that ran in the two heats, FSU had the 11th fastest time. Only the top eight teams advance to the finals. FSU’s relay team consists of George, Tangela Wobbleton, Fiona Norwood, Ayana Townsend, and Laura Gerber. Top-qualifier the University of Texas ran the fastest time of the day, finishing the race at 3:33.03. UCLA, Southern California, and Baylor had the next fastest times.
