Sand Volleyball Home Opener Tuesday

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The undefeated Florida State sand volleyball team will host its first-ever home match on Tuesday when Tulane comes to the Seminole Sand Volleyball Complex for a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.

FSU’s five-court complex is located north of the soccer and softball fields and between the track and field complex and the parking garage on Spirit Way. Parking will be available in the lot across from the courts and in the Spirit Way parking garage.
The second match will begin 30 minutes after the first match’s completion.
“We are all excited to play in front of our fans,” Florida State head coach Danalee Corso said. “We had an inter-squad match a few weeks ago, but that’s just not the same. We’re coming off of a bunch of wins on the road, too – so that is exciting.”

The Seminoles (4-0) were absolutely dominant during their nine-day road trip that started with a 5-0 win at UAB on March 3. FSU cruised past the Green Wave, 5-0, on March 5 in New Orleans before sweeping both Stetson and the College of Charleston last Thursday. Florida State has yet to drop a set in a dual match.

“We did very well against Tulane last week,” Corso said. “Every day, the indoor players just learning the sand game are getting better. Our team’s biggest advantage is we started in September. Some of these other teams will close the gap on us. We want to keep progressing. Even though we’ve won a lot early on, we can’t take anybody lightly.”

The Seminoles lineup will feature senior Kate Stepanova and freshman Aurora Newgard, a junior, and Brittany Tiegs, a sophomore.

Newgard and Tiegs represent FSU’s No. 2 team, while senior Visnja Djurdjevic and freshman Melanie Pavels will line up at the No. 3 position.

Freshman Stephanie Pellitteri and senior Mallory Kiley will play at the No. 4 spot for the Noles, while sophomore Jeassica McGregor and junior Lacey Blackman will play at No. 5.
