GREENSBORO, N.C. – Led by four-time honoree Amanda Saxton, the Florida State sand volleyball team had nine members of its squad named to the 2012-13 ACC Academic Honor Roll on Tuesday.
The Honor Roll is comprised of student-athletes who participated in a varsity-level sport and registered a grade point average of 3.00 or better for the full academic year.
Joining Saxton on the squad were recent graduate Mallory Kiley, rising senior Aurora Davis, rising juniors Stephanie Pellitteri and Melanie Pavels, and rising sophomores Julie Brown, Kayla Joyce and Katherine Plessy. Former Nole Jeassica McGregor also collected the honor.
Saxton defined student-athlete during her time at FSU, competing on both the indoor and sand volleyball teams and finishing with a 3.94 GPA. She received numerous academic honors and community service awards, including the prestigious NCAA Elite 89 Award, the Golden Torch Award and the ACC top Six Service Award.
Kiley, who earned a degree in dietetics, competed in two AVCA National Championships and was a co-captain her senior year.
Pellitteri, Pavels, Davis, Brown and Plessy all competed at the 2013 AVCA National Championships and will return to the Seminoles this season to lead the squad into its third season.
Florida State finished with a 17-4 record in 2013 and advanced to the AVCA National Championships Semifinals for the second consecutive season. In two years as a sport with head coach Danalee Corso at the helm, the Seminoles have a total record of 33-6 in dual match competition and have had five student-athletes collect All-American honors.
