GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the first time this season and the first time in his Florida State career, John Sansone was named ACC Baseball Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Sansone led the Seminoles to three wins on the week, including a series victory over No. 4 Louisville with a .500 average and team highs in hits (10), RBIs (10), total bases (17) and slugging percentage (.850).
He had at least two hits in four of his five games on the week and had five extra-base hits.
The senior third baseman from New Castle, Pennsylvania, went 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs in the series-opening win against the Cardinals on Friday and was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs in the clinching win on Sunday.
Sansone also put on a solid performance in his midweek outings against Texas Tech, where he went 4-of-8 from the plate with four RBI and two doubles in a series split with the Red Raiders.
A co-captain, along with Mike Compton, Sansone leads Florida State in five major categories including batting average (.392), hits (47), RBI (41), total bases (70) and on-base percentage (.483).
ACC weekly honors are determined by a vote of a select media panel.
Florida State returns to action tomorrow evening when it hosts intra-state rival Florida, with a game time set for 6 p.m. on Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium.
