Savage Leads Seminole Men’s Golf Team At General Jim Hackler Invitational

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. –
Junior All-American Matt Savage is in a tie for seventh place individual standings after shooting a one-under par 71 in the second round to pace the No. 13 Florida State men’s golf team to a fourth place standing after two rounds of the General Jim Hackler Invitational at the TPC of Myrtle Beach. Savage carded five birdies in the second round and has a 36-hole total of 148.

Coastal Carolina, the host school, is the leader after the first two rounds in the team standings with an eight stroke lead over Duke. The Chanticleers are ranked 42nd in the nation by GolfStat and are placed ahead of five teams in the top 25 including No. 13 Florida State. The Seminoles are 13 stokes behind Coastal Carolina in fourth place. Dan Obremski of Coastal Carolina is the individual leader with a two-round total of three-under par 141.

Savage (Louisville, Ky.) shot the best round of the day for the Seminoles with a one-under par 71 in the second round. After shooting an uncharacteristic six-over par 77 in the first round, Savage was in a tie for 32nd place in the team standings. He improved his score by seven strokes and his individual standing by 25 places with his under-par score in the second round.

Sophomore Seath Lauer (Huntington, Ind.) and senior All-American Jonas Blixt (Hammaro, Sweden) are both in the top 20 of the individual standings after two rounds of play. Lauer carded a 74 in the first round and has a two round total of 150. Blixt carded a 73 in the first round and has a 36-hole total of 151.

Freshman Drew Kittleson (Scottsdale, Ariz.) is in a tie for 29th in the individual standings with a two-round total of 153 while sophomore Cameron Knight (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) has a two round total of 159.

The final round of the event begins Monday morning at 8:00 a.m.
