March 27, 2007

AWENDAW, S.C. –
Led by sophomore Matt Savage’s third top 10 individual finish of the spring season, the Florida State men’s golf team finished in third in the team standings at the Third Annual Hootie at Bull Bay Invitational at the Bulls Bay Golf Club. Savage carded an even-par 71 in the final round and finished with a team-leading total of 210 for the three round event – he finished only five strokes behind Wallace Booth of Augusta State who earned individual medalist honors. Wake Forest and Baylor shared the team title.

Florida State, which is ranked No. 25 in this week’s Golf Week / NGCA Poll, has now finished in the top-10 of each of its three tournaments this spring. The Seminoles finished in second place at the Gator Invitational earlier this spring.

Savage (Louisville, Ky.) enjoyed the best tournament of his Seminole career in finishing tied for ninth in the individual standings. He earned his fourth career top-10 finish, the best three-round tournament score of his collegiate career (210 / -1 vs. par) and finished as the Seminoles’ leader for the third time in three events this spring. In addition, his second round score of 67 came within two of tying his collegiate best score of 65 which came during the 2006 NCAA East Regional, the 2007 Gator Invitational and the 2007 Seminole Intercollegiate.

Freshman Seath Lauer (Huntington, Ind.) also played the best tournament of his Seminole career as he finished tied for 11th. He led the Seminoles with a career-best 69 in the final round and finished with a 54-hole total of 211. Lauer earned the second top-20 finish of his career – he also finished tied for 16th at the Note Dame Gridiron Classic during the fall of 2007.

Junior Jonas Blixt (Hammaro, Sweden) recovered nicely after a second round 76 as he closed with a one-under par 70 in the final round. He finished tied for 17th in the individual standings with a 213 total. Blixt has shot a cumulative total of even par golf in the first three events of the spring season.

Sophomore Nicholas Smith (Ocala, Fla.) and freshman Cameron Knight (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) finished tied for 26th and tied for 31st, respectively, in the individual standings. Smith has earned two top30 finishes in the last two events and Knight earned the best tournament score of his seven-event Seminole career with a 72 in the final round and a 217 total for the event.

The Seminoles play next as the travel to the U.S. Collegiate Championship April 9-11 in Alpharetta, Ga.
