TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Al Thornton scored 22 points as Florida State cruised to an 81-64 victory over High Point on Monday night.
The Seminoles (9-2) struggled to pull away from the Panthers (7-5) early, but a 30-5 run to start the second half sealed Florida State’s fifth straight win.
Thornton also added a career-high four blocks, and his 3-pointer at the 3:12 mark in the first half put him over 1,000 points in his career.
High Point, playing its third Atlantic Coast Conference opponent of the season, never found its touch in the second half. The Panthers only scored five points in the first 14 minutes of the second half, including a stretch that saw High Point go over nine minutes without a field goal.
Arizona Reid’s 17 points and six rebounds led High Point, and Landon Quick added 11 points and five assists.
High Point took a brief lead with 13 seconds left in the first half, but Thornton’s 3-pointer just before the buzzer gave the Seminoles a 43-41 halftime lead.
