Second-ranked Football Preps for N.C. State

September 9, 1998

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The second-ranked Florida State Seminoles continued preparation for Saturday’s game with North Carolina State with a two-hour practice in shorts today.

“We went light today,” said head coach Bobby Bowden. “We’re ready to
play a game again.”

The team practiced against the scout squad after using the first part of
the session for kickoff and kickoff return coverage teams.
Bowden talked about Weinke in his post-practice press conference. “If he
can be successful that will grow and grow. I can see him making throws
more effortlessly now.”

The Seminoles will face NC State on Saturday, September 12th at 3:30 p.m.
The game will be televised regionally on ABC.

“We’re going to try to defend (receiver) Torry Holt so he can’t catch
anything,” commented Bowden. “They have a great passer and receivers. If
they can connect, that’s an offense. They exposed some of our weakness
(last year) and they do a real good job of working him (Holt).”

“They’ll complete their share of passes, but we hope to hold them to a
minimum and hope our pass rush can distract the passer,” continued Bowden.

INJURY REPORT: Their were no new injuries. The following players were
held out of practice: WR Peter Warrick (ankle), Brian Allen (ankle), Larry
Smith (ankle), Tommy Polley (hamstring), Talman Gardner (hernia), Tony
Bryant (shoulder).
