#22 Florida State (7-3)

Florida State moved up to No. 22 in the Baseball Weekly/ESPN Coaches poll after after sweeping a three-game series with Oral Roberts last weekend. Right fielder Matt Sauls’ RBI-single through the left side in the bottom of the ninth propelled FSU to a 4-3 win Sunday for the sweep. Senior right-hander Eddie Cannon (3-0) and junior third baseman Gibbs Chapman were named ACC Pitcher and Player of the week on Monday. Cannon went 2-0 last week and tied his career-high with nine strikeouts in each of the two starts. Chapman, who leads the team with a .450 batting average on the season, hit .750 in four games last week with two home runs.

The Bulldogs won their first two games of the season last weekend against Georgia State by scores of 9-3 & 5-2. UNC-Asheville lost three games at East Carolina (1-4, 0-8 & 2-6) to open the 2004 season. The Bulldogs are led by sophomore second baseman David Williams, who is hitting .400 (8-for-20) on the year with one home run.

The Seminoles lead the all-time series with the Bulldogs 9-0, dating back to 1994. The last meeting came in 1997 in Tallahassee with FSU winning the two-game series 11-2 & 8-5.
