Greensboro, N.C. – Florida State’s Rhett James was selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon. James recorded a complete game shutout at #7 Virginia in Charlottesville, Friday night to lead Florida State to an 8-0 victory. The right handed senior worked nine innings allowing no runs on four hits while striking out six Cavalier batters.
It was the first complete game of James’ career in his first-career Friday night start. The complete game shutout was the first of the season for the Seminoles and the first since Matt Lynch shutout Jacksonville 6-0 on May 30th in the 2003 Tallahassee Regional. James only allowed four hits on the night which two hits came in the ninth inning.
Florida State will take on Florida in Gainesville on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. before returning home to face the Duke Blue Devils this weekend. Wednesday night’s game will be carried live by the Sunshine Network.
