Florida State Track and Field Wins National Championship

Five top two finishes helped the Florida State men’s track and field team to its first-ever NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in front of a crow of 9,116 at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex in Sacramento, Calif.

Janson Wins Second National Championship

Florida State redshirt senior Lacy Janson (Sarasota, Fla./Cardinal Mooney) won the 2006 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Pole Vault National Championship on Saturday, June 10, 2006 at Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex. She cleared a height of 13’11.25″ (4.25m). The 2003 NCAA Indoor National Champion tied UCLA’s Chelsea Johnson, the NCAA Collegiate record holder, but Janson had only one missed attempt at the previous bar where Johnson had two.

NACDA And Coca-Cola Name Johnson Community All-American

The Coca-Cola Company and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) announced today (June 5, 2006) that Florida State redshirt junior Garrett Johnson (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Baptist Academy) is one of seven recipients of the 2005-06 Coca-Cola Community All-American awards. The Coca-Cola Community All-Americans program recognizes, celebrates and applauds student-athletes who are making a difference in their communities.

Buster Posey is just the third FSU shortstop to ever be named a freshman All-America.

Buster Posey Named A Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American

Seminole shortstop Buster Posey was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Thursday. The Leesburg, GA native is one of just three Seminoles in program history to be named to a freshman All-America team. He joins Brett Groves (1998) and Stephen Drew (2002) in that elite group. Posey finished his rookie season hitting .346, second-best on the team, and among the team’s offensive leaders in eight categories.

The duo added more accolades on Wednesday (June 7) when they were named to the 2006 Easton-Bell Sports All-America Teams.
