Seminole Football Team Holds Final Practice for Saturday’s Home Opener Against Maryland

Sept. 4, 2003

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 10 Florida State Seminoles (1-0, 1-0 ACC) wrapped up their practice week with a 15-period afternoon practice in shorts Thursday. After some special teams work, the offense and defense went over the final game plan against scout units for Saturday’s home opener against Maryland (0-1, 0-0 ACC).

“We got done what we needed to,” said head coach Bobby Bowden. “Other than Leon Washington being out, we are in pretty good shape injury-wise.”

Senior All-America candidate Greg Jones will open as the starter at tailback Saturday. Freshman Lorenzo Booker will run with the second team and sophomore Willie Reid will serve as the third tailback. Reid has worked at both wide receiver and tailback.

“Greg played better in the North Carolina game than I thought he would coming off that knee injury,” said Bowden. “He has had a good week of practice. I think he will pick it up each Saturday if he can stay healthy.”

Washington is the only player listed on Thursday’s injury report. The sophomore tailback is out for the Maryland game after dislocating his right elbow at UNC last week.

Florida State hosts Maryland on Saturday Doak Campbell Stadium. The game will be televised live on ESPN2 at 7:15 p.m.
