Seminole Football Team Holds Kicking Scrimmage Wednesday Morning

Aug. 20, 2003

Tallahassee, Fla. — The Florida State football team held a light, one-hour kicking scrimmage Wednesday morning at Doak Campbell Stadium. The Seminoles worked on all aspects of special teams during the session. Instead of going outside Wednesday afternoon for the second practice of the day, the coaches opted to meet indoors. The team will scrimmage Thursday morning at 9:25 after a brief workout on the practice fields.

“We decided against going outside this afternoon,” said head coach Bobby Bowden. “This way the guys can get some more rest before tomorrow’s scrimmage.”

Placekicker Xavier Beitia connected on three-of-six field goal attempts during live action. Beitia hit two-of-three from 38 yards out and one-of-three from 47 yards. He also made both extra point attempts.

Jesse Stein averaged 42.0 yards on two punts (43, 41) while Chris Hall averaged 38.3 yards per punt on three attempts (34, 35, 35).

The Seminoles will practice once Thursday with the final two-a-day practice scheduled for Friday. FSU opens the 2003 regular season a week from this Saturday on ABC with an 8:00 p.m. kickoff at North Carolina.
