TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
Florida State’s 30-member freshmen and newcomer group held its first day of practice under the watchful eye of 26th-year head coach Bobby Bowden Wednesday. The group practiced in the morning on the FSU football practice fields but the afternoon session was moved indoors because of inclement weather. The players took part in physical testing in the morning before working through a 12-period practice session, their first as members of the Seminole football team. The offense and defense practiced separately for approximately one hour and 30 minutes in the afternoon.
The group will practice twice more tomorrow before welcoming the returning members of the varsity team Thursday night.
“This is a good looking group,” said Bowden following the morning session. “What we are trying to do is teach them very slowly because the biggest thing they have to do right now is learn what we are doing. They have to learn a new system and learn what we want to do and that takes a long time.”
The players began the morning in the Moore Athletic Center room where they were put through stretching exercises and taught the team-flex. They were then put through physical testing in the 10-yard dash, vertical jump and long jump.
The 12-period practice session in the morning had the players broken up by position with drills run among the groups during the entire practice. The 90-minute session in the afternoon was a similar workout that saw coaches instructing players in individual position groups.
Listed below are the top results from today’s physical testing.
No injuries were reported following today’s practice sessions.
