Seminole Kicker Gary Cismesia Named A Lou Groza Semifinalist

Palm Beach, Fla.For the second year in a row, Florida State placekicker Gary Cismesia has been named one of 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza Award. The Parrish, Fla. senior is one of 20 players in the running for the nation’s top honor for a collegiate placekicker. He is also one of six ACC kickers on the list.


Cismesia is tied for the national lead in field goals made and attempted. He is second in the NCAA in field goals per game and 32nd in the nation in scoring. Cismesia is 19-for-25 on field goals this season and he leads Florida State with 78 points, more than three times as many points as anyone else on the team. He is first in the ACC in scoring and leads the league in field goals.


A three-year starter, Cismesia is seventh in career scoring at Florida State and he is second all-time in career field goal percentage. He has made 11 field goals and totaled 37 points in his last three games. Four times this season he has accounted for double digit points and he is personally responsible for almost 35% of Florida State‘s points in 2007.


Three finalists for the award will be announced on Monday, November 19 and will be honored at the16th Annual Lou Groza Collegiate Placekicker Award Banquet on Tuesday, December 4 at the Palm Beach Gardens Marriott Hotel. The 2007 Lou Groza Award winner will be announced on Thursday, December 6 during the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show in Orlando, Fla.
