TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State senior kicker Graham Gano didn’t have the start to the 2008 season that he hoped. The Pensacola, FL native was sidelined for the first two games due to knee surgery and then missed the first field goal attempt of his career from 52 yards. Since then he is a perfect 10-for-10 with three field goals from 50+ yards. Following a stellar performance on national TV versus NC State, Gano was named the ACC’s Specialist of the Week and one of three Lou Groza Stars of the Week.
Gano accounted for 14 of the Seminoles’ 26 points in a 26-17 win over the Wolfpack. The senior raised his field goal streak to 10 in a row with a perfect 4-for-4 night versus NC State. His 10 straight field goals mark the second-longest streak in FSU history. Gano connected from 37 yards twice and then from 44 and 53 yards in the win. His 53 yarder came with 1:53 left in the game and FSU only up by six points. A miss would have given the Wolfpack the ball back, down by just one score, on their own 36 with a chance to win the game. Gano’s 53-yard strike was a no-doubter that looked like it would have been good from 60 as he sealed the Seminole victory. It was his third straight game with a 50-yard field goal, which is a school record. Gano tied the school record for 50-yard field goals in a season and in just six games he is already tied for the second-most 50-yard field goals in a career at FSU.
Gano and the Seminoles will return to action this weekend at 3:305 p.m. in Doak Campbell Stadium versus Virginia Tech. The game will be broadcast by ABC and ESPN.
