Seminole Men’s Golf Team At Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship

PONTE VEDRA, Fla. –
Sophomore Alan Beers paced the Florida State men’s golf team through the first two rounds of the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship at Sawgrass Country Club here today. Beers is in a tie for 38th-place in the individual standings and the Seminoles are in 13th-place in the team standings following the completion of the first 36 holes of the 54-hole event.


Beers (Midlothian, Va.) finished the day with a nine-over par total of 153. He shot 76 in Monday morning’s first round and77 in the second round. Beers is competing in his second tournament in as many weeks after finishing in a tie for 58th-place at last week’s Gator Invitational at the University of Florida.


Freshman Eric Beaty (Germantown, Tenn.) is the second highest ranked Seminole player as he carded a 10-over par score of 154 in Monday’s two round of play. Beaty also played well last week as he finished in a tie for 44th-place at the Gator Invitational. Sophomore Brad Lusenhop (Gloversville, N.Y.) (tied for 46th) and junior Peter Mitchell (Miami, Fla.) (tied for 49th) are also currently in the top-50 of the individual standings.


Florida is at the top of the team leader board with Gator Camilo Villegas the individual leader heading into the final round. Florida leads the event by six strokes over North Florida as Villegas looks to hold onto his national ranking of seventh. Florida is looking to win its fourth consecutive Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship.


The final round of 18 holes is scheduled to begin Tuesday at 8 a.m.
