Seminole Men’s Golf Team Closes Fall Season At Isleworth-UCF Collegiate

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
The Florida State men’s golf team, which has finished in the top-five in the team standings in two of its first three fall events, closes out it fall season as it plays in the prestigious Isleworth Intercollegiate Oct. 22-24 at the Isleworth Golf and Country Club in Windermere, Fla. The Seminoles enter the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational fresh from their fourth place finish in the inaugural Notre Dame Gridiron Classic and their third place finish at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate. Florida State has earned four top-six finishes in their last six events dating to the final three events of the spring 2006 season. Following its participation in the Isleworth tournament, Florida State will begin its off season program in preparation for the spring season.

THE THIRD ANNUAL ISLEWORTH-UCF COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL
Florida State is joined by No. 2 Florida, No. 4 Clemson, No. 5 Oklahoma State, No. 7 Tennessee, No. 8 Georgia, No. 11 North Carolina, No. 14 Georgia State, No. 17 Texas A&M, No. 18 Georgia Tech, No. 20 Wake Forest, No. 24 UCF, No. 25 Texas Tech, No. 39 South Carolina, No. 49 Kentucky, Arizona and Texas, and in the third annual Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational. The three-day event will be held at the Par-72, 7544-yard course at the Isleworth Golf and Country Club. Georgia returns to defend is team championship against 17 other teams which all finished the 2006 season ranked among the top 50 teams in the nation. Defending individual champion Pablo Martin of Oklahoma State will play in the event as he looks to earn medalist honors for the second consecutive season.

RANKING THE SEMINOLES
The Seminoles are ranked 27th nationally in the latest collegiate team rankings by GolfStat. The Seminoles are ranked as one of seven ACC teams in the nation’s top 30. With 10 wins over teams ranked in the nation’s top 50, the Seminoles are ranked 33rd in the most recent national team rankings while Jonas Blixt is ranked 24th in the individual rankings by GolfWeek Magazine.

BLIXT ENJOYS STRONG START TO 2006-07 SEASON
Junior Jonas Blixt (Hammaro, Sweden) earned medalist honors at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate in September and finished tied for fifth at the Notre Dame Gridiron Classic in October. Blixt carded a career-best 67 in the final round at Shoal Creek to win the individual championship. The individual championship marked the second of Blixt’s career; he also won medalist honors at the Gator Invitational during the spring of 2005. Blixt then earned the third top-five individual finish of his career as he carded an even par 70 in the first round of the Notre Dame Classic and finished with a three-round total of 217. Blixt is a cumulative total of plus-two over par in his last two events (six rounds).

SAVAGE ROUNDING INTO FORM
Sophomore Matt Savage (Louisville, Ky.) finished third in the individual standings at Shoal Creek and tied for 21st at the Notre Dame Classic. His third place finish at Shoal Creek marked the best of his career and third time in his first two season that he had finished in the top-12 of the individual standings in an event.

LAUER PLAYS WELL AT NOTRE DAME
Freshman Seath Lauer (Huntington, Ind.) played as an individual at the Notre Dame Classic and finished tied for 16th. He shot a 73 in the second round to finish second among his six teammates.
