Seminole Men’s Golf Team Competing At Mercedes Benz Collegiate Championship

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. –
Freshman Song Joen led the Florida State men’s golf team with a five-over par 77 in the first round of the Mercedes Benz Collegiate Championship at Sawgrass Country Club. Playing in one of the nation’s top men’s collegiate events, the Seminoles are in 17th place in the team standings after the first round of the tournaments.

Defending champion South Carolina finished the first day of competition with a 2-under par 286 and leads the team competition. The Gamecocks two strokes in front of LSU. Host UNF finished the opening day tied with UCF in 13th place at 13-over par. A group of five players that includes Duke’s Nathan Smith, South Carolina’s Robert Svensson, Kentucky’s John Holmes, Georgia State’s Ben Taylor and LSU’s Chris Wells lead the individual standings after posting 2-under par 70s to open play.

Jeon (Seoul, Korea) led his four Seminole teammates with a five over-par score of 77. He finished in a tie for fifth place in the individual standings at the season opening Gator Invitational. Joen is followed by fellow freshmen Jonas Blixt in the individual standings . Blixt is in a tie for 73rd place with a seven over par score of 79.

Florida State continues play in the tournament with second round playing beginning at 8 a.m. Monday morning. The final round of the 54-hole event is scheduled for Tuesday.
