Seminole Men’s Golf Team Finishes 11th At Mason Rudolph Collegiate Tournament

Sept. 23, 2003

KINGSTON SPRINGS, Tenn. –
Florida State University sophomore Gonzalo Ibarraran finished in a tie for 26th-place in the individual standings and the Seminole men’s golf team finished in a tie for 11th-place in the team standings as competition in the rain-shortened Mason Rudolph Collegiate Championship ended Tuesday. It was the first top 30 individual finish of Ibarraran’s career as he totaled a five-over par 147 for the 36-hole tournament.

Ibarraran (Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico) was the most consistent of the five Seminoles playing in the event as he carded a 73 in Monday’s first round and a 74 in Tuesday’s second round. His 73 in round one tied his career low while his two-round total of 147 is the best 36-hole total of his five-tournament Seminole career.

Junior Rusty Mosley (Vidalia, Ga.) finished as the second ranked Seminole player with a two-day total of 150. Mosley’s best round during the tournament came Monday as he carded a two-over par 73.

Juniors Matt Adcock (Apopka, Fla.) and Mark Sestilio (Punta Gorda, Fla.) finished tied for 53rd in the individual standings as both totaled 152 over two days. Both Adcock’s and Sestilio’s best rounds came Monday as they carded 74 and 76, respectively. Senior Tim Vickers (Alpharetta, Ga.) also competed for the Seminoles during the event.

Alabama Birmingham won the event by 14 shots over Texas A & M, largely on the strength of its incredible 11-under par performance in Monday’s opening round. The Blazers finished with a team total of five-under par (563). Texas A & M’s Stephen Reed had the tournament’s best round today with a sizzling 65 and tied with UAB’s Chris Cousins for medalist honors at 136, six under par.
Florida State continues its fall schedule as it travels to play at the Gary Koch/Cleveland Golf Intercollegiate Oct. 20-21 in Tampa, Fla.
