Seminole Men’s Golf Team Finishes Ninth At Kiawah Island Invitational

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. –
Florida State University sophomore Eric Beaty finished in 16th place to lead the Seminole men’s golf team to a ninth place finish in the team standings at the Cleveland Golf/Kiawah Island Invitational at Turtle Pond Golf Course. Beaty and teammate Brad Lusenhop (tied for 23rd-place) led the Florida State as both finished in the top 25 to lead the team to its first top-10 team finish of the season.


The host College of Charleston Cougars earned the team title for the second consecutive season as they defeated Mississippi by eight strokes. Charleston’s Bruce McDonald earned medallist honors as he shot a three-under par 69 in the third round and finished the 54-hole event with a 214 total.


Beaty (Germantown, Tenn.) finished the tournament with a three-over par 75 in the third round for a three-round total of 222. His individual finish of tied for 16th is two places better than his previous best finish if 18th at the 2001 Mason Rudolph Championship. He averaged 74.00 strokes per round for the event. Beaty’s tied for 16th-place individual finish marks the best finish of his career.


Junior Brad Lusenhop (Gloversville, N.Y.) finished the tournament with the best round of the event for the Seminoles, an even-par 72. It marked the fifth time during his career he had shot 72 or better for a single round. It was also the third time during his career he had earned a top-25 individual finish.


Florida State finished as the top ranking ACC team in the event. The Seminoles finished ahead of NC State (12th -place, 916) and Maryland (tied for 13th-place, 920). NC State played in the NCAA Championship while Maryland advanced to the NCAA Central Regional in 2002.
