Seminole Men’s Golf Team In Eighth At Shoal Creek Intercollegiate

Sophomore Jonas Blixt is tied for seventh in the individual standings and the Florida State men’s golf team is tied for eighth I the team standings after the first round of the Inaugural Shoal Creek Intercollegiate at the Shoal Creek Golf Club. The 15-team field was scheduled to play two rounds of 18 holes Monday but a morning weather delay pushed the initial tee-time back by nearly one hour. The entire field was unable to complete the second round and the first round individual and team scores will stand for the first day of the event. The teams remaining with holes to play in the second round will finish those holes before the third and final round begins Tuesday morning.

Louisiana State leads the standings after the first round with a team score of 284. The Tigers have a one-stroke lead over Tennessee and an 11-stoke lead over the Seminoles in the team standings through 18 holes. A pair of Tigers – Chris Wells and Beck Troutman – leads the individual standings after carding three-under par scores of 69. They are joined in first place by Cole Isban of Notre Dame and East Tennessee State’s Garreth Shaw. The foursome is a stroke ahead of Jonathan Mount and Chris Paisley of Tennessee, who both carded 70s in the first round.

Blixt (Hammaro, Sweden) led the Seminoles are he carded a one-under par 71 in round one. He trailed LSU’s Wells and Troutman by a mere two strokes after the first 18 holes. Blixt has played three round of par or better golf in his first four rounds of the fall season and is only one-stroke over par during the first two events of the season. He is averaging 71.50 strokes in his four rounds this fall.

Blixt was followed in the Seminole team standings by freshman Matt Savage (Louisville, Ky.) and junior Torstein Naevestad (Oslo, Norway). The pair was only two strokes from moving in to the top-10 of the individual standings after the first 18 holes of play.

Freshman Nicholas Smith (Belleview, Fla.), who helped lead the United States to the World Junior Cup Championship this past summer shot a five-over par 76 while sophomore Song Jeon (Seoul, South Korea) carded a six-over par score of 77.

The Seminoles are freshman from their third place team finish in the season opening Tennessee Tournament of Champions. The finish marked tied the highest finish under third-year head coach Trey Jones. Florida State finished in third place in the team standings at the spring 2005 Gator Invitational.
