Seminole Men’s Golf Team In Sixth Place At Courtyard By Marriott Invitational

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. –
Florida State University freshman Jonas Blixt is in a tie for fifth place in the individual standings and the Seminole men’s golf team is in a tie for sixth place in the team standings after the first round of the Courtyard by Marriott Intercollegiate at Devils Ridge Golf Club. Blixt shot a season-low two-under par score of 70 and the Seminoles totaled a 286 in the first 18 holes of the now 36-hole event.

The tournament was halted in the second round with each of the 15 teams still on the course because of rain accompanied by lightning. The teams will complete the second round Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. to complete the event. The third round has been cancelled making the tournament a 36-hole event.

Aaron Price of Georgia Southern shot an eight-under par 64 to lead his team to the first round lead. Price led a trio of Eagles in the top-15 of the individual standings over the first 18 holes. In addition to Price’s score, Jon David Kennedy carded a four-under par 68 and David Palm scored a three-under 69. Georgia State led Wake Forest by six strokes after the first round.

Blixt (Nassjo, Sweden) came within two strokes of tying his career best of 68 as he led the Seminoles in the first round. He played 16 of his 18 holes at par or better and had four birdies. Blixt has now carded a team-leading eight rounds with scores of 75 or better in 13 rounds this spring.

Song Jeon (Seoul, Korea) also played well in the first round and came with two strokes of tying his career-low score for a single round with a one-under par 71. He was nearly perfect on the day with two birdies and only one bogie over his round of 18 holes. Jong carded a career-low 69 in the third round of the season-opening Gator Invitational.

Junior Jacob Davis (DeLand, Fla.) and sophomore Torstein Nevestad (Oslo, Norway) also had their scores counted for the Seminoles. Davis carded an even par 72 while Nevestad finished with a one-over par 73 as the Seminoles finished with their second best team score of the season – a 286.

Following the completion of this tournament, the Seminoles turn their attention to the annual Atlantic Coast Conference championship April 15-17 at The Old North State Club at Uwharrie Point, N.C.
