March 28, 2005

AWENDAW, S.C. –
Freshman Jonas Blixt is in a tie for eighth place after carding a one-over par 71 and the Florida State men’s golf team is in a tie for ninth place following first round play in the inaugural Hootie At Bulls Bay Intercollegiate at the Bulls Bay Golf Club. Blixt began play only five strokes off the leaders’ pace as the field of 75 golfers began play in the second round of the three round event this afternoon. Following the postponement of Sunday’s first round and a one-hour delay to the start of the round on Monday, the field will play as long as there is daylight. The third and final round will immediately follow the completion of the second round Tuesday morning.

Augusta State, the nation’s No. 12 ranked team, blistered the course in the first round with a 276 team total and led second place Auburn by 12 strokes. Augusta’s Scott Jamieson was tied for first place with Chan Song of Georgia Tech in the individual standings after both golfers carded identical scores of 66. Kalle Edberg of Augusta was one stroke back in third place after carding a five-under 67. A total of 16 golfers, including Florida State’s Blixt, finished under par for the round.

Blixt (Nassjo, Sweden) found himself at the top of the Seminoles’ leader board for the third time in four spring events. His team-leading score of 71 marked the fourth time in ten rounds this fall he had finished with a single-round score of 71 or better. In winning individual medalist honors at the Gator Invitational in February, Blixt carded his career-low single round score of 68.

The remaining four Seminoles playing in the event – Torstein Nevestad, Song Jeon, Rusty Mosley and Bradley Ruch – all shot four-over par scores of 76 and were are all tied for 42nd place aft the first 14 holes. Nevestad (Oslo, Norway) entered the event as the Seminoles’ leading golfer with a 73.00 stroke average while Joen (Seoul, Korea) ranked third on the team with a 73.56 spring stroke average. Mosley (Vidalia, Ga.) played well in his first event of the spring after breaking his collarbone prior to the start of the season while Ruch (Lexington, Ky.) continued his maturation in his second event of the spring season.
