Men’s Tennis Has Three Athletes Ranked in ITA Preseason Ranking

 

Tallahassee, Fla. – Oracle and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced the 2017 Oracle ITA Collegiate Tennis Men’s Division I Preseason Rankings on Tuesday. The Florida State men’s tennis team nabbed one ranked doubles pairs with the pairing of senior Jose Gracia and senior Lucas Poullian at No. 15. The Noles also added a pair of ranked singles players, Guy Iradukunda at No. 47 and Lucas Poullain at No. 50.

Gracia and Poullain ended last season ranked No. 51 and with the most doubles wins on the team, 16. Gracia and Poullain played most of their matches on court two and ended with a 13-6 on that court. The duo came away with a 9-3 record in the ACC and a 1-3 record against nationally ranked doubles pairs.

Iradukunda ended his 2017 campaign ranked No. 83 in the final ranking and with a 21-17 record. He went 7-2 on court one and 7-5 in tournament play. He was second on the team in singles wins with 21, behind only fellow ranked teammate Lucas Poullian.

Poullain finished off 2017 with a 23-7 record and ranked No. 88 in the final ITA poll. Poullain led the team with two more wins than the next highest on the team. He finished with a 9-3 ACC record and a 2-2 record against nationally ranked opponents. Poullain led the Garnet and Gold with a 7-1 record on court one and a 13-5 record on court two.

“It’s great to have two guys ranked in the Top 50 in singles and another pair in the Top 15 in doubles,” said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. “We look for these guys to help lead the team that will also have Aziz (Dougaz) back in the Spring. Aziz is currently playing pro tournaments while enrolled in the fall and we expect him to be ranked in the twenties singles player and be a highly ranked doubles player along with partner Guy (Iradukunda).”
