TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Back to the friendly confines of the Seminole Soccer Complex, No. 21 Florida State (7-2-0, 2-1-0 ACC) continues ACC play at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 29 with a match against NC State (8-2-1, 1-1-1 ACC). The Wolfpack received 21 votes in this week’s United Soccer Coaches Poll.
The Seminoles are 17-3-2 all-time against NC State, and have won 16 consecutive matches against the Wolfpack, dating back to 2001. FSU has not allowed a goal in the series in the last 594:00 of match time, since a goal on October 17, 2010.
“NC State is an interesting group,” said FSU head coach Mark Krikorian. “Last year, they had a phenomenal season and they have maintained that very high level of play. They have a nice combination of some very good athletes and some very technical kids, as well. I’m sure that it is going to be a very competitive game. Last year, we went up to their place and were able to sneak away with a 1-0 win. But on Friday night, I hope the crowd comes out to watch two good teams play a good game of soccer.”
Florida State is 70-2-3 in its last 75 total home matches, dating back to 2011. The only losses during that span were to No. 6 Florida on September 5, 2014 (2-1) and No. 10 North Carolina on September 17, 2017 (1-0).
Sophomore forward Deyna Castellanos has been chosen as one of the three finalists for 2017’s The Best FIFA Women’s Player Award, alongside Carli Lloyd (USA) and Lieke Martens (NED). Castellanos is also one of 10 players – and the only female – up for the 2017 FIFA Puskas Award. She leads the Seminoles and the ACC, while ranking No. 2 in the NCAA in both goals (10) and points (22) this season.
Friday’s match against the Wolfpack will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra and live stats will be available on Seminoles.com. Admission is free for all home regular season home matches and Friday is also our International Student Night. FSU Soccer will be giving away scarves to the first 275 fans and doors will open at 6:00 p.m.
