Seminole Soccer International Update

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – One of the trademarks of the Florida State soccer program is developing some of the best players from around the world. Over the next few weeks, there will be current and former Seminole soccer players competing around the world in tournaments and camps for their respective national teams.

Former Seminole Michaela Hahn (2012-15) will compete with the U.S. U-23 National Team at the Istria Cup in Croatia from March 2-6. The USA will play three games during their time in Europe, taking on the full Slovenia national team on March 2, Poland’s U-19 squad on March 4 and finishing with a match against the France National “B” Team on March 6. Hahn is one of 11 players that are a part of the NWSL that will compete with the U.S. U-23 at the Istria Cup. Upon returning home, Hahn will resume training with the Western NY Flash leading up to the 2016 season that begins in April.

Current FSU sophomore Megan Connolly and recent graduate Megan Campbell (2013-15) will reunite with the Republic of Ireland Women’s National Team for the Cyprus Women’s Cup from March 2-9 on the island of Cyprus in the Mediterranean. The Ireland squad will play three games – versus Austria (March 2), Italy (March 4) and Hungary (March 7) before closing out the Cup on March 9 with a match based on where they finished in the group standings.

Finland will be the host nation for the 2016 Cyprus Women’s Cup, and will feature a pair of current Seminoles on the roster – junior Emma Koivisto and sophomore Natalia Kuikka. Finland will compete in the other group during the Cup, with matches scheduled against Wales (March 2), the Czech Republic (March 4) and Poland (March 7), as well as the playoff match on March 9.

 

Seminole Soccer International Update

 

A trio of Seminoles will be a part of the Iceland Women’s National Team that will participate at the 2016 Algarve Cup in Portugal from March 2-9. Former FSU stars Dagny Brynjarsdottir (2011-14) and Berglind Thorvaldsdottir (2013-15) will play with current Seminole sophomore Elin Jensen in a tournament format much like the Cyprus Women’s Cup. Iceland will play matches against Belgium (March 2), Denmark (March 4) and Canada (March 7) before determining seeding and an opponent for a final match on March 9.

Janice Cayman (2010-11) and the Belgium Women’s National Team will also be in the group with Iceland at the Algarve Cup as the former Seminole continues her career in Europe. Belgium will have matches against Iceland (March 2), Canada (March 4) and Denmark (March 7), leading into a March 9 match to close the tournament.

Former Seminole Amanda DaCosta (2007-10) will also participate in the 2016 Algarve Cup, competing for host nation Portugal. They will play matches against Russia (March 2), Brazil (March 4) and New Zealand (March 7) before a final match on March 9.

Staying stateside, current sophomore Kaycie Tillman will participate with the U.S. U-19 National Team at a training camp from March 12-19, in Davis, Calif. Tillman has competed internationally with the U.S. U-17 team previously and has been called up to camps for the U.S. U-20 team.
