Seminole Soccer Places Two Players On Soccer America ‘Team Of The Week’

Aug. 31, 2000

As the Florida State soccer team wraps-up its first week of play, the Seminoles continue to garner accolades from their recording-breaking start to the 2000 season. Senior April Murphy and red shirt-junior Heather Dyche were selected as members of the first Soccer America “Team of the Week” award.

“To have two players receive national recognition is fantastic,” said head coach Patrick Baker. “A lot of this is a result of the win against Florida. I was very happy for the individual recognition that April and Heather received.”

Dyche scored Florida State’s first goal against the Gators just 24 seconds after Florida took a 1-0 lead. Murphy scored the game-winning goal with just 1:44 left in regulation time. It was FSU’s first win against their in-state rivals.

“The thing I reminded the team is that their selection comes from a total team effort,” said Baker. “It was a fantastic team effort over the weekend but April and Heather deserved the individual recognition.”

The Seminoles, currently ranked 18th in the latest Soccer America poll, will take on the University of Missouri Friday, September 1 in the Missouri Tiger Tournament.
