After four weeks of team practice, the Florida State softball team continues its fall campaign with a pair of games on Friday. Sports information caught up with senior Natasha Jacob and freshman Cheyenne Jenks for a quick Q&A about being at the opposite ends of their college careers.
Senior / Outfielder
Sports Information: Have you been able to take any of the newcomers under your wing?
Natasha Jacob: We just started with team practice, and unfortunately I have been in class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but once I can be out here everyday, it is something that naturally seems to happen. We’ve been hanging out a bunch off the field, and this class is a great class.
SID: As a freshman, who was your role model to help you learn the Seminole Way?
NJ: Jessica van der Linden, she was a great role model, an awesome team player, and always had a great attitude. She was always working hard.
SID: What are some of the goals that you have set for the season?
NJ: Each year I try and improve my batting average. This year I’m working hard on preventing a slump like I had last year, I’m working on staying on top of my swing and my fundamentals.
SID: As a senior, what is the biggest moment in your career here at Florida State?
NJ: Definitely going to the World Series, it is something that we will always remember, and strive to do this year.
SID: What positions do you play?
Cheyenne Jenks: Third base, shortstop, and outfield.
SID: What was your biggest recruiting draw to Florida State?
CJ: The girls, I stayed with Moe (Melissa Wood) and Brittany (Osmon) and had a lot of fun. They were cool, and everywhere else, they were kind of different than me.
SID: What has been your biggest adjustment from high school to college?
CJ: Time management is the hardest thing in college. I had class from 8:00-10:45, catching from 11:00 to noon; conditioning and weightlifting form 12:30 to 1:00, working with Robin from 1:30 to 2:00. At 3:00 we had practice which lasted until 5:00, then we hit from 6:30 to 7:30 plus study hall until 9:00.
SID: Have you had any older players take you under their wing yet?
CJ: I like everyone on the team, but I’ve gravitated with Moe (Melissa Wood) more than anyone. I had a few days in town before my apartment opened up, and I stayed with her. Also, Brittany (Osmon) and Tiffany (McDonald) have been great.
