Florida State Softball continues its fall campaign with a Saturday, October 7th twin bill. The Seminoles return to action by hosting Manatee Community College at 11:00 a.m. The second half of the doubleheader will be a 3:00 p.m. match up with Gulf Coast Community College, which is led by former Seminole All-American Susan Painter. Manatee and Gulf Coast Community Colleges will meet in a 1:00 p.m. tilt. All games are free of charge and will be held on JoAnne Graf field at the Seminole Softball Complex.
The Seminoles close out the fall season on Sunday, October 15th with another home doubleheader. Florida State takes on North Florida Community College at 1:00 p.m. which will be followed immediately by Florida State versus Tallahassee Community College at 3:00. The day begins with a 11:00 a.m. match up between North Florida C.C. and Tallahassee C.C.
The Seminoles are coming off an impressive 2006 campaign which took them to the Super Regional round of the NCAA Tournament as well as a Top-25 ranking for the ninth time in the last 12 years. Florida State ended the year tied with Louisville for 19th in the ESPN.com/USA Softball rankings and No. 25 in the USA Today/NFCA poll.
Two-time NFCA All-American infielder Veronica Wootson (Fullerton, Calf.), and five other positional starters return for the 2007 campaign. The entire pitching staff returns, and is anchored by Junior Tiffany McDonald (Belfair, Wash.) who spent her summer playing with the British National Team as a guest pitcher. Nine newcomers fill out the ranks as the Seminoles look to reach deeper into the NCAA Tournament.
The 2007 season will open on February 9th with Sanford in the Seminole Classic.
