Tallahassee, Fla. – In the second match-up between the teams this season, Florida State and Troy split a doubleheader on Wednesday night on JoAnne Graf Field. The Trojans took the first game 3-0, but the Seminoles fought back to avoid the sweep with a 3-2 win in game two.
Smashing her previous best for strikeouts was freshman pitcher Sarah Hamilton who struck-out 14 in the second game. Hamilton allowed four hits, an earned run and one walk. Her 1.93 ERA in three complete games tops the Florida State pitching staff.
Leading the Seminoles in the victory was senior Whitney Buckmon who went 1-for-4 with one run. Buckmon continues to top the team with an overall .444 average and brought her season total for stolen bases to 10 after taking one from Troy in the first game.
Despite the loss earlier in the day, three Seminoles were able to get hits off of Trojan pitcher Ashlyn Williams. Buckmon went 2-for-3 while fellow senior Brittany Osmon had one hit in two at-bats and sophomore Monica Montez also went 1-for-2.
Taking the loss for FSU was sophomore Terese Gober, now 4-5 in 2008. Gober gave up eight hits and three earned runs while striking out seven.
Florida State will get a day of rest before jumping into the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga., beginning with a 11:00 a.m. game against Massachusetts on Friday.
