Seminole Striders to Take Part in Invitational

Tallahassee, Fla. – The Florida State Striders will head to the Invitational on Friday, September 30, 2005. The race will take place at the Little Everglades Ranch in Dade City, Fla. St. Leo University and Florida Southern College will serve as the host schools for the meet. The women’s collegiate 5K will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The race will feature 17 women’s teams which will include Florida State, South Florida, Florida International, Columbus State, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida Southern, Florida Tech, Johnson & Wales, North Florida, Nova Southeastern, Palm Beach Atlantic, Rollins, Saint Leo, St. Thomas, Stetson, Warner Southern and West Florida.

At the 2004 Invitational the Seminole Striders finished in third-place with 75 points. Current sophomore Audrey Hand (Virginia Beach, Va./ Kellam) finished the race in 20:07.65, good for 14th place.

So far this season, the Seminole Striders have competed at the Mountain Dew Invitational. They finished in 10th place with 229 total points and were led by Hand who finished the 5K in 29th place with a time of 19:07.86. Sophomores Tina Biedenharn (Orange Park, Fla./ Ridgeview) and Stefanie Bechler (Libertyville, Ill./ Libertyville) were the next Seminoles to finishes as the completed the 5K in 19:54.61 (56th place) and 20:10.39 (65th place), respectively.

The Florida State No. 18 men’s and No. 28 women varsity cross country squads will compete at the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind. on Friday, September 30, as well. The Seminoles Striders’ next meet will be Saturday, October 8, at the Disney Invitational in Orlando, Fla. The varsity squads will continue their season on Saturday, October 15, at the NCAA Per-National Meet in Terre Haute, Ind.
