WINSTON SALEM, N.C. – Junior Rodrigo Laub and senior Xavier Luscan won the doubles championship of the ACC Indoor Championships in a grueling match on Sunday. They defeated the tandem of Geoff Boyd and Nicholas Monroe from North Carolina 9-8 (9-7). The match stayed close forcing a tiebreaker (8-8) where the pair was able break it open. Boyd and Monroe are ranked 29th in the ITA National Fall Rankings, which were released in December.
In his first collegiate appearance, freshman Mat Cloer, reached the quarterfinals of the singles championship, where he was defeated Saturday by Trysten Menaine of North Carolina, 7-6 (3), 7-5. Sophomore Romain Jurd was defeated in the third round by Andy Metzler of North Carolina 7-6, 6-3. Senior Bartosz Koldej lost to eventual singles Champion, Joao Menano of Georgia Tech, in the third round 6-1, 6-1.
In the singles consolation round, Chip Webb withdrew after reaching the semifinals with conditions unknown at this time. Sophomore Jarrod Owen lost in the third round to West Nott of Georgia Tech, 6-2, 6-4.
The Florida State men’s tennis team will host the Seminole Team Tournament Saturday, January 26. Admission is free to the public.
